Recap June 8th, 2010
Our weary group of companions found themselves interrupted in the middle of the night by a courier who had brought them an urgent message. Professor Gydd Nephret sent word that Lady Dannae Ulyan of Aerenal was not who she appeared and that the Professor feared for her safety. She bid the group to come to her private apartment in the greatest of haste to receive the remaining information that she possessed and for her safety.
There was little deliberation over the task at hand, the group agreed it was most likely a trap but they wouldn’t risk an innocent to suffer for it. Sparing no expense express the group boarded an express sky coach and made their way back to house Morgrave.
The stormy weather of the night was an ill portent for the group. Upon arrival to Shiva house it was apparent that trouble was afoot. Upon opening the door there stood Lade Dannae herself proclaiming “Welcome,” in a hoarse whisper, “Thank you for coming. The professor can’t join us. She is with my mistress. But that needn’t concern you for long.” Sadly, this was but an illusion masking the horrid presence of a Deathlock Wight controlling a few rotwing zombies and three other zombies as well.
A fierce battle ensued and through magical fire, holy light, blade and arrow our heroi companions were triumphant. A quick search of the apartment revealed the torn open corpse of the poor professor, her internal organs stolen from the corpse. There was also the note... “Dannae is Demise... Demise is Dannae.” Behind her head board there was a secret panel, detailed in the notes she provided. There you found the professor’s note book.
Another small discussion ensued as whether to wait for the authorities. The majority of the heroes believed they had done nothing wrong and furthermore they had a duty to cooperate with the law. On the way out there was a large gathering of individuals from the nearby apartments, staring in shocked awe at the burnt remains of the apartment. Also there were two small goblins that seemed to take great notice of Phax. Also the strange scholarly warforged whom Pike had seen before was also close by.
The group decided to hold onto the information about the Lady Dannae as they had no actual proof, beyong what they saw, to have the law intercede on the groups behalf; some of the more... “liberal” members of the part; i.e.. Phax had that little tid bit. After a very short debriefing with the city guard the troupe was released; Phax then revealed a bit more of what he knew...
He had never heard anything about the Lady Dannae being a member of house Ulyan but she instead is a member of a group called the Skullborn, elves who are fanatical about magical power in the pursuit of immortality revering the undead.
The reported back to Captain Kaeles the next day to provide a list of supplies. It was at this time too that they revealed the fight at the Professor’s apartment. This seemed to disturb Kaeles greatly; it was bad enough that there were rival bands of goblinoids after the crown but what was worse having an agent of the Skull Born, especially one as cunning as Demise with ties to the Emerald Claw was worse. The mood of the group darkened at the mention of this foul name tainted in their memories from when they first met. Kaeles suggested that the group remain dormant for the next few days until they left; which they did; besides purchasing a few supplies. The character’s than boarded the vessel Alarise Rise; a supply vessel headed for the town of Ardev (a farming and ranching community and strategic starting off spot for miners heading to Grey Wall) to catch up to the Word Bearer’s and aid their quest in restoring the Ashen Crown back to the hands of the goblins.
The vessel left onYear of 998 Lharvion (2nd week) Far Dawn Time
